7th National Dialogue on Sub-National Governance Kicked Off in Badakhshan

A high level delegation from the GIRoA, led by Head of the Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG) Abdul Matin Bek, has visited Badkhshan and Takhar province and officially met the local authorities.

On arrival, the delegation met with the Province Governor Mohammad Zakaria Sawda and local officials. During the meeting, Mr. Bek expressed his appreciation of local official’s commitment to work within the province. Following the visit a two-day regional conference on Good Governance Initiatives with the presence of provincial governors (Ghore, Nangarhar, Takhar, Helmand, Daikundi, Faryab and Parwan), University professors, elders, CSOs, P-Council members and university students organized in Faizabad, Badakhshan.

Mr. Sawda province governor in his speech welcomed the delegation and briefed the delegation on the areas of discussion for the 7th National Dialogue on Sub-National Governance in Badakhshan.

IDLG head Mr. Bek in his speech at the 7th National Dialogue on Sub-National Governance said, “Central Government is striving hard to shift focus to the districts and delegate authority to local administration in order to fulfill the mission in promoting good governance practices in Afghanistan.”

The delegation visited Takhar local officials and discussed the Good Governance Initiatives with a brief agenda including discussion of plans for the development of province and districts with a particular attention to the Construction of Taluqan Airport, Ay Khanum port, local governance and security issues.

It was an opportunity to learn and share thoughts and experiences on implementation of good governance initiatives in Afghanistan.
