IDLG Held the 5th “Watandar” Conference in Kandahar For Two Days

“Watandar” a Local Government Conferences are high level forums for discussing issues around local governance and decentralization, for setting policy directions and for sharing knowledge and experience. The 5th Watandar conference, which was held in Kandahar and inaugurated by IDLG deputy minister for policy and technical affairs, was a highly successful event in governance dialogue.

Independent Directorate of Local Governance IDLG held the 5th “Watandar” conference in Kandahar for two days. Participants from 3 regions (Helmand, Bamyan, Zabul and Nimroz) shared best practices, exchanged views & discussed ways to promote and consolidate good governance practices.

Mr. Timor Sharan deputy minister to IDLG, in his welcome speech said that, IDLG is delighted to be hosting the conference and he hoped that the discussions would help governments and local government navigate towards the vision and achieving the targets being set for the good governance. He said that their implementation would be integrated into the country’s national vision and planning framework.

During the conference the working groups developed 14 plans and presented to the participants on the second day of the conference. Date production and productivity, online procurement E-System and well service delivery plans were selected as the best plans among them
